The Kilimanjaro Centre for Community Ophthalmology is an international organization with a mission to strengthen African health systems and partnerships. It was established in 2001 in response to the VISION 2020 initiative and is dedicated to the elimination of avoidable blindness through the provision of eye health training, planning facilitation, change implementation, and research. Based in South Africa (KCCO International) and Tanzania (KCCO Tanzania), KCCO works closely with a variety of local, governmental, and international organizations to strengthen existing systems, as well as to identify and address emergent needs. KCCO's work spans across the African continent, and its greater vision is toward an Africa where everyone can access high-quality, patient-centered, sustainable eye care services--provided by Africans for Africans.
